TXCPA Fort Worth honored certified public accountants for service to their profession at a luncheon meeting July 31, 2019, at The City Club. Norman B. Robbins III, CPA, Mark M. Jones & Associates, Chapter president, presented the awards.

CPA of the Year was awarded to Cliff Parker for his long-standing service to the Chapter and to the community of Fort Worth.  Stephanie Shaner is Young CPA of the Year. Stephanie was instrumental in setting up the Rivertree project and the Career Development Forum. Sandra Bitenc was honored for her Distinguished Service to the Chapter and the profession as a faculty liaison to UTA.  She helped lay the groundwork for the Accounting Career Education (ACE) Committee’s speaker bureau appearances in all UTA Principles of Accounting (2301) courses.  Mark Rich received a Meritorious Service award for his role in the Career Development Forum.  There was a three-way tie for our award for Outstanding Committee Chair: Megan Terrell and Michele Sanchez-Soriano for their efforts in leading the advocacy charge in Fort Worth, and Stephanie Buduhan for her work on the Chapter’s website and communications with members and Fort Worth executives.  Desiree Ford was recognized for her Outstanding Committee Contribution for her thoughtful suggestions for Members CPE Day speakers.  Naomi Tune and Kourtney Jenke were acknowledged for their work toward the success of the Rivertree Christmas Outreach Program.

CPAs licensed November 2018 through May 2019 were welcomed to the accounting profession and welcomed to TXCPA Fort Worth. A complete list of those honorees can be found here.

Each year, the TXCPA honors members aged 40 or younger who have shown innovative leadership qualities within the accounting profession and their communities.  Six Chapter members were recognized as 2019 TXCPA Rising Stars: Marianne Barry, Cook Children's Physician Network; Stephanie Buduhan, PSK LLP; Rachel Glasser, Stovall Grandey & Allen LLP; Phillip Hernandez, BKD LLP; Stephanie Shaner, Averett Financial; and Megan Terrell, CLA. 

The Chapter also acknowledged TXCPA Accounting Education Foundation Accounting Excellence Award recipients: Carmen Webb, University of Texas at Arlington and Johnny Vasquez, Texas Wesleyan University. The Excellence Award recognizes outstanding accounting students at Texas colleges and universities.

John M. Sharbaugh, Managing Director of Governmental Affairs for the Texas Society, and former CEO and Executive Director of TXCPA, gave an update of the past legislative session.
